It was a great fall day on the beach. The sun was shining in a clear sky making it 'shorts weather' again.
The low tide was at 1.13pm so I went back to the same beach I have been hunting for the past few days, arriving at about 12.15pm.
Conditions were perfect for barefoot TH'ing, my favorite. Several surfers were enjoying the waves but sand was empty. The tide was way out so I started working a pattern from midway down the sand bank to the water and back. After several passes like this I shortened the length, not going all the way out to the waters edge. Most targets were concentrated in a fifteen foot section of soupy sand. Again the majority of the targets were bits of iron and nails but when I found two old watches I knew I was in the right spot.
The first ring was a small copper one that was lying close to a junker hoop earring. Any ring is a good ring but I was hoping for more.
The second one came up a little later and at the time I thought it was probably junk too, it was heavily tarnished but I could make out writing on the outside. Usually these turn out to say things like 'love waits' or some such droll statement. However, after I got home and cleaned it up a bit I saw it read T & Co 1887 925, and on the inside: c1997 Tiffany & Co 925.
Very cool.
The third ring was an obvious junker but after cleaning I think it kind of a pretty one.
I stayed there until dusk, which is noe about 5pm. I watched the sun set over Catalina Island then headed home.
