Cleaning silver

Some of the rings and jewelry I find have been in the water for a while and the silver ones become heavily tarnished.

The usual cleaning with Tarnex and baking soda is a long and tedious job so in these severe cases I use electrolysis.

I mix one teaspoon of salt in a glass of water attach the positive wire from my home made power source to a spoon, put it in the glass, then attach the negative to the ring. After several minutes the ring fizzles and the water starts getting darker with all the tarnish coming off the ring. Then I finish off with a good rub and Tarnex if needed.

I use an old cell phone charger for the power source, with crocodile clips added to the two wires.

Been a while

since I blogged...who cares right!!

I am trying a new way to create drafts using windows live writer. I'm not sure if it is the way to go but it might work.

I have been working a lot more lately, driving the taxi. I had a falling out with the last company and am now with a local, Egyptian owned group. One thing I like about this company is that I only see the cab  owner once a week to pay him. I do not have any contact all week long, so I am free to hussle up my own customers and make money, no company politics to deal with.

Summer is here and more rubes are hitting the beaches, hopefully dropping gold and silver. I have been TH'ing the dry sand mostly with limited success....some silver rings, one gold, lots of junkers and lots of coinage.

My RV seems to be falling apart. It has a leak in the water pump that I am ignoring. The fridge quit, but after days of taking it apart and testing components I finally found the problem and fixed it.

Walking 'home' the other morning I spotted a pair of coyotes in the trees with six pups! I took photos on my phone but can not get them to download. The pups were all healthy looking and about six weeks old.
